Humboldt County still deals with racism from time to time.

"Usually, when I'm upset, I give myself time to cool down. I figure if I sleep on it, the next morning it won't be so bad. But I can't, not this time. Today I was hurt to hear my niece and nephew, no older than four years of age, were called niggers by a white man with a son in arms at Hiller Park in Mckinleyville. My mother, who was watching them at the time, took them home in fear of their safety.

"Later, she felt remorse for not speaking up. While she teared I told her that she had done the right thing, considering the situation. Even so, doing the right thing did not give her comfort. Nor to I.

"I am a Hispanic resident of Humboldt County, and I've lived here for 15 years. My niece and nephew are half Liberian. Their father came to this country because he had heard wonderful things of America. Yet, people like the man at Hiller Park destroy what a wonderful place this nation really is."

I couln't help but to comment your article. I also have been a vistim. Just this weekend while shoppin at Winco, a man rushed me screamin into my face to speak english. I was devistated! I was not speaking in spanish to start of but the way he approched me was so disrespectful! He kept screaming racail things and eventually caused a scene! I couldnt belief what i was seeing. It made me ferious and sad to see him with such hate in his eyes. He yeled at other customers while they tryed to pull me away and eventually i managed to keep my cool and just walk away. But don't get me wrong, i stood up for myself and let him know he was no one to speak to me or any one in that manner. I was going to be respected as any other should!

What exactly is that last comment supposed to mean, dan? And, to whom are you referring? I have mix-race children who can 'pass', but have experienced the racism from both ignorant "KKK" like folks to local law enforcement. Can we just NOT use words like that for ANYONE? My kids seem to not experience the racism and even think it doesn't exist here(??!!!) and then someone like this idiot opens his mouth - to little children - is that what a big 'man' you are? Yeesh!! Grow up!!

Things are really bad lately. Scary my neighbors on both sides refuse any contact with people in my house. Their 10 yo called my wife a towelhead.

Of course this town is racist, they haven't seen anything outside of their little bubble of a "White town". Diversity is so important and teaches people to understand that in reality, there will always be different people in the world!!!! What people fail to realize is that the world is so much bigger than this little town of racists idiots of 100,000 people. I'm sure not all, but a vast majority. These racists people gather their 'information' from hearsay, or only the TV, but obviously not REAL BOOKS of credible information. Racists don't have a mind big enough to understand that racism is STUPID, and is only for STUPID people. They don't have the capacity in their brains to understand that there are millions of different people in the world and that there are bad and good in every race. Bad, is usually correlated with poverty. My god, people are stupid. Go step into the real world and actually see all that there is in the world and maybe that could change your tiny, small perspective in your little town. You racists obviously haven't seen much of anything in the world.

I lived in Fortuna where they hate Jews. During asseblies at school there is always atleast two people the Nazi Salute and there's Swastika everywhere and "White America" all over too. A lot of people hang up the confederacy flag and use the n word all the time. I was racially discriminated because my Dad is Jewish and I've had family die in the holocaust and because my mom is a white/native american mix.

Born in Humboldt, whtta we gots? We got space, place to grow dope if you discreet and we got room enough for everyone. We got good climate, we got dairy, we got space and miles of backroads.
